"Songwriting Without Rules"
Workshops

If there are no "rules" then songcraft depends on informed decisions. Annie dissects the craft into its musical elements—rhythm, melody, counterpoint—and its literary elements—structure, rhyme, pace, sound and character of language—and demonstrates and discusses various possibilities. She inspires students to write, to develop an instinct for the effect of their songcraft choices, to look microscopically for the seed of a creative work, and to explore the tension within an idea.

Workshops are adapted to fit participants' format and learning objectives. Some possibilities include:

• A one hour interactive concert/lecture

• One day workshops with hands on writing and critique

• Residencies culminating in a performance of student works

Appropriate for songwriters, poets and fiction writers, or musicians, high school age through adult.

To book Annie for a workshop (or a concert, festival, or performance of her one-woman theater pieces), e-mail Joann Murdock of Artists of Note Inc., or call her at 630-557-2742.
