Backbone

Annie's second album, Backbone, released in March 1996 on Prime CD, was co-produced by David Lange and features a group of top Seattle musicians. It's a tribute to Annie's influences, but, even more, it's a beguiling assertion of an individual artistic voice, and a substantial step forward from her accomplished, largely self-produced first album, Cause and Effect. Backbone is more straightforward and direct lyrically and musically. Guitar World Acoustic said "...clever folkie shows backbone, humor and very listener-friendly guitar chops in her speak-singing songs, related in a confidential, person-to-person way." And from Oasis Recording: "The music (and at least equally so, the lyrics) are truly extraordinary; it's one of the most artistically pleasing projects we've worked on."
